My Story? I was born a poor, gaijin otaku... Edit
Hi, my name is Rob and I'm a fan of Sekirei. I've been an anime fan since I was introduced to it by college friends in the late 1980's, back in the days when all there was to watch were fansubbed (and very occasionally fandubbed) shows on VHS tapes that were often 4th-gen SLP copies from Japanese TV with tracking glitches and droputs...you young whippersnappers don't have that problem! Ah, memories...
What has always attracted me to anime (beyond great visuals, of course) are those with intricate and detailed backstories. I've been a Science Fiction fan since I was a kid, and since most anime have a Sci-Fi aspect to them I think it was natural to gravitate towards them. My favorites from back in the day were Megazone 23, Captain Harlock, Nausicaa, Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair, and of course Akira. Perhaps oddly for a Sci-Fi anime fan I was never big on most of the popular giant robot/mecha shows like Gundam or Robotech; I don't have anything against them per se, they just didn't grab my interest like the ones that didn't focus on the mecha as much.
After graduating college I lost contact with my anime fan friends and lost access to anime as well; I didn't have the extra funds to go to cons (and I'm not really comfortable at those anyway) or to buy tapes (and later CDs and DVDs), as my limited entertainment budget was being spent on other things like Blake's 7, X-Files, and Babylon 5. In fact I had pretty much lost track of anime in general until Cartoon Network started showing them a few years back; Cowboy Bebop and Big O were revelations and got me interested again. Also I discovered TV Tropes and spent many an hour surfing around that site, seeing where things would take me. Somewhere along the way, I ran into a mention of Sekirei and remembered seeing it pop up on Netflix (I had rated other animated movies like Titan A.E. which meant I started getting recommendations of animated shows), and that was that. I marathoned it over a weekend and have never stopped since; not a week goes by that I don't watch at least one episode. Then Google searches led me to this wiki and here I am!
