Shiina (椎菜, Shīna) is a young male Sekirei. His Ashikabi is Sahashi Yukari. Shiina's name literally means death.
Appearance
Shiina is a young male Sekirei of below average height and slim build, with messy silver hair and greyish-blue eyes. He is one of the rare characters shown to change his outfit on a regular basis. This ranges from female clothes (that he is forced to wear by Yukari to avoid detection from Mikogami and Higa) to an all black attire resembling a military uniform to match Yukari's look from the Third Stage onwards.
Personality
He has a very close, sibling-like relationship with Kusano, despite the fact that his power is the natural opposite of hers. Shiina dislikes violence and has expressed strong remorse for hurting Sekirei he's defeated.[2] He is often seen crying by the side of the Sekirei he has defeated. Shiina is also very calm and warm-hearted in contrast to Yukari's brutality and impulsiveness, evidenced by her behaviour towards the other participants they encounter to the point where he feels sorry for them as well. During the Third Stage of the Sekirei Plan, when Shiina is forced to work for Higa, Higa prevents Shiina from helping Yukari to escape by telling him that Sekirei and humans can never be together. After Yukari pushes Shiina off of her to prevent her skirt from falling off, he takes it as a sign that she really does not care for him and would prefer to be in a relationship with another human (Higa). Shiina becomes so depressed that even when Higa and some of his strongest Sekirei are out at the third match, he does not try to escape. Shiina's feelings of inferiority to Higa make him obedient and easy to control but the bond Yukari and he share proved to be stronger and he escapes with Yukari.[4] Shiina has expressed that "to make a sekirei yours you will need mucosal contact, but I can do more if you like", this shows that Shiina has desperately wanted Yukari to be his Ashikabi. Yukari has also gotten Shiina to wear female clothing twice, his compliance is a further sign of his dedication to his Ashikabi's wishes, although he has expressed discomfort at doing such things. Despite Shiina's kind-hearted personality, he can be merciless when the situation requires it, evidenced by his fights against Amebane and Namiji. Before and during engaging in a fight with Amebane, Shiina was disgusted at Amebane's atrocious behaviour towards his Ashikabi.[5]
Abilities and Powers
Shiina's powers are extremely dangerous and powerful; powerful enough to have inspired a wildfire of rumors about the merciless, god-like "Death Sekirei" (which is just an over-exaggerated version of Shiina himself). His power is most likely "Rot" or "Decay", he can instantly disintegrate most forms of material including metal, wood, fabric and flesh to a limited degree. His Norito to remove the opponent's Sekirei crest is "By the corpses of my contract completely rot my Ashikabi's cross!"

History
It was mentioned by Kusano that she and Shiina were like brother and sister which is also reflected by their opposing powers of growth and decay. Shiina helped to keep Kusano's powers in check if they went out of control. Kusano also quotes without Shiina what is she gonna do. In fact Shiina can sense when Kusano has been crying and by the surroundings if she has been through the area. Shiina has also destroyed the arboretum which was made when Kusano was almost forced to emerge.
Synopsis
He is searching for Sekirei #108, Kusano, who he has a very close sibling-like relationship with. He met Yukari after being attacked and saved by her and some help from Homura. He shudders at the idea of almost being Mikogami Hayato's Sekirei. He thinks of Yukari like a bright shining light in his life. Due to the overwhelming power of his ability, he is called "Reaper Sekirei" (死神のセキレイ, Shinigami no Sekirei) and along with Yukari, are ironically considered the "most evil pair" in Tokyo upon reaching the Northern part of the city. Shiina and Yukari's reputation and power have become so feared that they have attracted the attention of Higa Izumi, who encountered them shortly after arriving in the North, attempting to find the last unwinged Sekirei as he (Shiina) and Yukari were hoping it would turn out to be Kusano (which, of course, already has an Ashikabi in the form Minato) but was later revealed to be Homura.[9] After his encounter with Tanigawa Junichi he expressed a desire that Kusano would have an Ashikabi like Minato.[2]
Shiina and Yukari later resurface as they encounter Junichi Tanigawa and Yashima, witnessing Junichi's abuse in the process. Shiina defeats and terminates Yashima while Yukari relentlessly beats on Junichi after he attempts to stab her, leading to Shiina asking for Yukari to wing him. After another brush with Mikogami and his Sekirei, they are finally bonded when they kiss.
Yukari and Shiina are revealed to be hunting for leads on Kusano's whereabouts and the former has grown especially fond of roughing up those she doesn't deem helpful, leading to the two developing a sinister reputation amongst the plan's competitors. They later have a run in with Katsuragi and Kochou, sent by Izumi Higa of the East.
Yukari is later taken prisoner by Izumi Higa after Toyotama and Ichiya attack and threaten to terminate Shiina if she does not accompany them back to Higa. After being set against each other by Higa's schemes, given that he wants to use and dispose of Shiina and marry Yukari for her father's company, Yukari intially reacts with what Shiina perceives as revulsion or rejection when he attempts to hug her. In the interim, Shiina is forced to attack and terminate Sekirei on High's orders, often with Uzume, which includes Namiji.
After some soul-searching and reflecting on her past and feelings for Shiina, Yukari steels her nerves for an escape attempt. Fire alarms later go off as a fire has apparently broken out on Higa's private floor. Shiina hears Yukari's call to him through their telepathic link, and he heads off in search of her. Kakizaki runs to the room where Yukari is being held and discovers that she is the one who started the fire. She breaks the window and jumps out, 50 floors up, believing that she will be saved somehow; and she is caught by Shiina on the way down.
During the last match of the Fourth Stage, Yukari and Shiina have now earned their reputation as the 'Demon Ashikabi and Death God Sekirei', and encounter Yashiro Itsuki and Amebane, a duo who seeks to take their titles, and have an inverse dynamic to Yashima and Junichi, with the Sekirei abusing the Ashikabi, with Shiina terminating Amebane by the end of the clash.
After a misunderstanding when seeing Minato with Ku, the Sahashi siblings finally realize that they are both Ashikabi, and of the Sekirei that are as close as siblings.
Yukari and Shiina decide to drop out of the Sekirei Plan, but return to defend Kamikura Island during the hostile invasion that interrupts the Fourth Stage of the Sekirei Plan, bringing other Ashikabi and Sekirei with them as reinforcements.
After the plan is over, Yukari escorts Shiina to a physical and the couple attend the party at Izumo Inn.
They also appear in the epilogue a couple of times, including to assist in the battle on Kamikura.
